2017 Miami Hurricanes Football SOTU awards: Game of the Year

Several great options for Game of the Year. Which is your pick?

For the Miami Hurricanes, the 2017 season was full of great games. With a 10 game winning streak (longer if you count back to the end of 2016), the Canes had plenty of happy Saturdays in the fall.

Which was the happiest of them all?

Here are the nominees for 2017 Miami Hurricanes Game of the Year:

Week 6: 24-20 win at Florida State Seminoles

Miami beat their bitter rivals for the first time in 8 years, on a TD pass to a little-used reserve WR — Darrell Langham, who only played the last 2 snaps of the game — who scored on FSU’s best cornerback. This game also featured a massive performance by senior WR Braxton Berrios (8 catches, 90 yards, 2 TDs). A MASSIVE block by Ahmmon Richards. And much more.

But, regardless of all that, it involved a win over Florida State. GOOD TIMES!!!

Week 7: 25-24 win vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

In a prime letdown spot after a long-awaited win vs the rival Seminoles, Miami returned to Hard Rock Stadium to take on Georgia Tech. This game was tightly contested, with each team having chances to win the game.

But, in the end, another clutch catch by none other than Darrell Langham — this time, a tipped ball, on 4th down, in the rain, caught as he fell to the ground — extended Miami’s last drive and put the Canes in position to kick a game winning FG. Might not have been the prettiest game, but ugly wins count the same as pretty ones.

Week 10: 28-10 win vs Virginia Tech Hokies

Revenge! Miami went to Blacksburg and got WHOOPED in 2016, and the Canes returned the favor this season. The Canes, who debuted their awesome Miami Nights blackout jerseys on this day, jumped out to a lead, and won even more comfortably than the final score might lead you to believe. This was one of the many nights that Hard Rock Stadium was an absolutely electric place to be.

Week 11: 41-8 win vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish

MORE REVENGE!!!!

After losing in South Bend last year, Miami wan’t going to let that happen again. Hosting their 2nd consecutive primetime game, and hosting ESPN’s College GameDay on campus for the first time ever, the Canes took full advantage of the spotlight. Miami came out and DOMINATED Notre Dame, cruising to a 41-8 victory that could have easily been bigger.

I went to this game as a fan, and got to dap up Ed Reed during Trajan Bandy’s pick 6, so that was cool. (humble brag)

Honorable Mention: All the other wins.
