A talented 5’10” 150lb player, Couch has elite cover skills, and has utilized them to great success during games, camps, and 7v7 tournaments alike. Couch helped Chaminade to a 2017 Florida State Championship, so yeah, he’s kinda good.
Oh yeah. I almost forgot: Couch has been selected to play in the 2019 Under Armour All-American game. That’s good right? I think that’s good.
Teams across the country have been pursuing Couch for the better part of a year. And, Couch has been very receptive to their overtures. Before today’s commitment to Miami, Couch has previously offered verbal pledges to Tennessee and Michigan, in that order. Couch was committed to Tennessee for 11 months before he decommitted and immediately flipped his commitment to Michigan while on an official visit to Ann Arbor.
That commitment to Michigan shocked many, because Couch had visited Miami multiple times and the Canes seemed to be the team most likely to flip him. But, he gave a verbal pledge to the Wolverines and shut his recruitment down.
Or so he said.
Over the course of the last 2 months since his commitment to Michigan, Couch has maintained a connection to the Canes and their staff, and the shine came off of Michigan rather quickly. Couch decommitted from the Wolverines on June 9th, less than a month after committing there.
Once he was back on the market full-stop, Miami made quick and decisive moves to get back into the thick of things with Couch. Those moves and continued communication are what led to today’s commitment.
A 4-star caliber player, Couch has picked the Canes from a list of 28 scholarship offers. Many teams across the country have offered the talented defender, and he has previously been committed to Tennessee and Michigan, as I mentioned previously.
And, before people go crazy that Couch is now on his 3rd commitment, sometimes that happens in recruiting these days. But, it’s better to be the 3rd commitment than the 1st (just ask Tennessee about that one). Nothing is certain, but it SEEMS like Couch has finally come to a right, proper, and final decision.
Couch joins his HS teammates S Keontra Smith and DE Cam Williams in committing to Miami, and is the 14th commitment overall for the Canes. He’s the 3rd CB in this class, joining Carol City’s Jarvis Brownlee and Lake Brantley’s Damarius Good at that position.
