It was a busy day for Ft. Lauderdale (FL) DT Jason Muñoz on Saturday. He attended the first Mark Richt Football Camp at the University of Miami, earned a scholarship offer from DL coach Jess Simpson after dominating the early morning session, and committed to the Canes, all in the space of about 6 hours.

A new name on the DL board, Muñoz measured in at 6’3” 279lbs today at camp, much bigger than the 6’4” 211lbs on his 247sports profile. Attending the powerhouse program at St. Thomas Aquinas, Muñoz gets high level coaching by NFL Hall of Fame DE Jason Taylor, so there’s plenty to like about the future of his on-field skills and technique.
Muñoz is a bit underrecruited at this time after missing the entirety of the 2017 season with a broken fibula. Muñoz, however, made a full recovery and turned in a strong performance for Aquinas this spring. It was during that strong spring that Miami’s coaches saw the talented DL and made the move to get him on campus to workout. That workout went very well, and led to today’s offer and commitment.
Muñoz has understandably seen his recruiting profile rise with his return to the field this spring. Several other P5 schools, including Boston College, Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky, and Missouri offered him this spring, with other schools monitoring the situation until he played for Aquinas this fall.
Muñoz is the 13th commitment to Miami’s 2019 recruiting class. He joins Doral (FL) Academy DT Denzel Daxon and Hollywood (FL) Chaminade-Madonna DE Cam Williams at that position group in this class. Muñoz is the 3rd Aquinas player committed in this class, joining teammates Anthony Solomon and Avery Huff, both linebackers, in this class.
