Welcome back, Canes fans. Miami has had a closed scrimmage and a couple days of practice since our last recap (my bad, was focusing on getting The Recruiting Rules finished and published) but we’re back in action here today.

So, you probably want less talk and more recap? Got it. Here we go.
George Brown Jr. undergoes knee surgery
After sustaining a torn MCL in Saturday’s scrimmage, Miami announced on Tuesday afternoon that redshirt junior OL George Brown Jr. would undergo surgery to his right knee. Miami said a full recovery is expected, but provided no timeline for Brown Jr’s potential return.
Brown Jr. tweeted on Wednesday night that his surgery was successful. He now begins the recovery and rehabilitation period. We wish George Brown Jr. a full and swift recovery from this injury.

Not one, but two QBs transfer from LSU
I know this is a Miami blog and a Canes Camp recap, but we gotta pause for the cause and talk about LSU for just a second here.
Heading into the fall, LSU had a 4-way open competition for QB between Myles Brennan, Justin McMillan, Lowell Narcisse, and OSU transfer Joe Burrow. Through the first part of the fall, all 4 players had rotated at the top of the depth chart, with each player seeing time with the 1st team offense. In LSU’s first fall scrimmage, the quartet of passers put up remarkably similar numbers.
McMillan 8-13, 83 yards

Brennan 5-10, 94 yards
Narcisse 6-14, 122 yards, 1 TD
Burrow 7-13, 118 yards #LSU QB stats from scrimmage from Ed Orgeron.
But, the prevailing thought ever since his announced transfer to LSU was that Burrow was going to be the guy for the Tigers at QB, and that didn’t sit well with McMillan and Narcisse. A day after a report came out that BOTH players were considering leaving the team, Narcissse was the first to bolt.

It didn’t take long for McMillan to decide his time in Baton Rouge was at an end as well, as he announced his transfer the next morning.

So now, LSU is in the position that I wrote about being concerned that Miami could potentially find themselves in 2019: with just 2 scholarship QBs on the roster. Our SB Nation colleagues over at And The Valley Shook discussed these departures at length.
While Myles Brennan has played for the Tigers previously, Coach O seems to be all-in on Joe Burrow for this season. We’ll see how that works out for them on September 2nd in Arlington, TX.
