CanesHoops Recruiting Kicks Into High Gear

As college basketball recruiting enters the official visit season, find out who plans to visit the Canes and when.

With less than 3 months before the NCAA men’s basketball early signing period opens on November 14th, college coaching staffs are in full blown recruiting mode. The Jim Larrañaga led Miami Hurricanes have been busy setting up official visits with the nations top high school prospects (SOTU’s Evan Hadrick has been doing a great job keeping tabs on most of CanesHoops top recruiting targets). Here is a quick glimpse into which recruits are visiting Coral Gables both officially and unofficially and when.

September 7-9: 4 star shooting guard, James Bouknight (#94 in the 24/7 sports rankings) is scheduled to be Miami’s first official visitor of the fall visit season. He may be joined by 4 star power forward, CJ Walker (#45 in 24/7 sports rankings) who told us he is looking at 3 dates for a visit to sunny Coral Gables. Bouknight and Walker recently named their top 5 with Miami making the list for both prospects.

September 14-16: 4 star point guard Isaiah Wong (#83 in the 24/7 sports rankings) is tentatively scheduled to official visit Miami on this weekend. Wong had taken an unofficial visit to UM in December and has the Canes in his top five. The Miami staff has the talented Wong high on their wish list and they have been aggressively recruiting him since offering him last year.

September 21-23: 4 star wing Donovan Williams (#97 in the 24/7 sports rankings) plans to visit the Canes in Coral Gables this weekend. Williams has Miami in his top 5 along with Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia and Arizona State.

September 28-30: 4 star combo guard Anthony Harris (#66 in the 24/7 sports rankings) should be on campus this weekend. Miami made Harris’ top 5 along with UConn, Virginia Tech, Indiana & Wake Forest but only Miami, VT and Wake are scheduled for visits by the talented guard so far.

October 5-7: Newly offered 4 star power forward Anthony Walker (#142 in the 24/7 sports rankings) will be on campus for the big football matchup between Miami and FSU. Walker hasn’t yet narrowed his schools yet but getting one of his visits puts Miami in a good position. Walker is a former AAU teammate of a past Miami recruit, Immanuel Quickley, who had the Canes in his final 3 before choosing Kentucky last fall.

October (TBD): The nation’s top ranked recruit, Vernon Carey Jr., and son of former Miami Hurricanes football legend Vernon Carey Sr. has said he plans to take an official visit to the UM campus. While the date is to be determined we understand it will be sometime in mid-late October. Carey has visited the Canes (unofficially) numerous times and the staff has been recruiting him the longest by far. Coach L has even flown to South America twice to watch Vernon play for USA Basketball, the only D-1 head coach to do so. Miami has not only been playing the legacy card but also has been pitching how he could become a major celebrity in his hometown if he decides to #MaketheCribGreat and play all his home games in front of family and friends.

Carey’s high school teammate, Scottie Barnes, (a 5 star 2020 guard) has also visited UM many times and was rumored to be on campus again today for an unoffical visit. We’ve also learned that another top 5 player, Cole Anthony, will be taking an unofficial visit to Miami tomorrow (8/21).
