The Miami Hurricanes continued 2018 Canes Camp on Wednesday. And, before we get to the interviews and whatnot, we have to talk about the first significant injury of the fall.
TE Michael Irvin II tears meniscus, will miss 4 months, maybe season
Though we may not have expected him to start by the time the season came around, junior TE Michael Irvin II would have had a roles on the offense this year. But, that’s gone by the wayside after Miami Athletics announced Irvin II had torn his meniscus.
The Canes suffered their first major injury of the 2018 season. Are the freshman duo of Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory ready to step up to fill the void?

Irvin II will undergo surgery to repair the torn cartilage in his knee and is expected to miss 4 months. That leaves the possibility open that he returns for Miami’s bowl game, but the more likely scenario to my eye is that Irvin’s 2018 season has come to an end before it even started.
Freshman TEs Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory will need to step up faster than ever to fill the injury-created void, and Miami could go with a 6th OL or 4th WR in various sets as well.
We wish Michael Irvin II the best and a full and complete recovery in the future.
Michael Pinckney in Walking Boot
Yup. Another injury from yesterday’s practice, but this one isn’t thought to be as serious. Starting junior LB Michael Pinckney was in a walking boot after practice according to a report by Susan Miller Degnan of The Miami Herald.

Since it’s not a season-ending injury, Miami has made no comment on the matter. But, per the report and a program source, Pinckney’s injury is thought to me minor and the boot is a precautionary measure.
Hopefully this is just a blip on the radar and Pinckney is full-go for the season. Miami’s linebacking corps is one of the best in the country, and Pinckney’s play is a big reason for that. The Canes will need him on the field this year to be the best version of themselves possible.
