Following his official visit to the University of Miami, we had the opportunity to chat with CJ Walker, a highly sought after 6 foot 8 inch 200 pound stretch 4 power forward out of Orlando Christian Prep. The 2019 5 star prospect is ranked 19 in the most recent ESPN top 100 and has Miami in his final five along with Arizona, Florida, LSU and Oregon. He plans to visit all 5 schools before making a decision in November.
When we asked CJ what attracts him to the University of Miami and the South Florida area he responded: “I love how The U is a big family and the coaches are making me and my family a priority. South Florida loves their sports especially football and basketball.”
Walker said he loves “how they allow their players to play in a freelance offense,” referring to Miami’s style of play and what stands out. “Coach L relates to his players genuinely, the team showed me major love and they were very upfront with me.”
CJ was hosted on his official visit by Dewan Huell and Anthony Lawrence, Jr. who both play the four position. With Lawrence graduating after this season and Huell likely to go pro, the Canes hope Walker will step into their shoes in Coral Gables next fall.
When asked how the visit went overall he said “Man the visit was litty, first class, so much love. I had a chance to meet the academic staff they were great to me and my family. He told us that he enjoyed the opportunity to spend time alone with “the players away from the coaches and pick their brain a little.” His favorite parts of the trip where “the photo shoot and the food, LOL!”
Walker told us he can see himself playing at Miami next year but is still planning on taking other visits.
Come this November Coach Larrañaga and the Canes, hope this talented young man decides to bring his talents to Coral Gables.
