The Miami Hurricanes got a much needed boost to the 2019 recruiting class today when Brooklyn (NY) Poly Prep 3-star DT Jason Blissett committed to the Canes.

At 6’3.5” 271lb, Blissett has very good size, and the frame to add weight as he will likely transition inside to DT at the college level. In HS, Blissett plays DE, and could still see some time there in a role similar to Demetrius Jackson as time goes on.

The #2 ranked player in the State of New York, Blissett was an unknown on the recruiting trail until recently. The New York native traveled south to participate in Miami’s annual Paradise Camp this July, and the impression he made was a big one. New DL coach Jess Simpson was immediately a fan of Blissett’s following a very strong workout at the camp session, and offered him immediately.

Even though there were 7 weeks between Blissett receiving his Miami offer and today’s commitment, there had been little doubt that the talented player would be picking Miami.

A strong player on the field, Blissett has large aspirations off of it, as well. He takes his academics seriously, and that’s a big reason why he stayed at Poly Prep, even when other talented teammates were leaving. Additionally, Blissett wants to be a Federal Agent (just hope he’s not mad cuz I’m flagrant) when he’s done with football.

As I already said, Blissett is the #2 ranked player in the State of New York. He is the #30 DT Nationally in this class as well. For Miami, Blissett is the 17th overall commitment in the 2019 recruiting class, and 3rd DT. Blissett joins Buford (GA) 3-star Jalar Holley and Ft. Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas 3-star Jason Munoz at that position in this class for the Canes.

Blissett committed to Miami over offers from Florida, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Boston College, and Maryland among others.
