(FULL DISCLAIMER. This article is simply for fun. Chide me, praise me, do whatever. Just know that I’m here to give my two cents and offer a perspective on a game or games that maybe you’re on the fence about. Giving you something to consider that may help you go one way or another. Not forcing you to fork over your money to a sports book. But, of course, if you win, break me off 5%. All lines courtesy of VegasInsider.com)
Last week: 8-0 single games; 1-0 parlays; 0-1 teasers (9-1 for the week)
Overall single games: 9-1
Overall parlays: 1-0
Overall teasers: 0-1
Winner winner parlay chicken dinner!!! My lockity lock from last week, Boston College, demolished UMass, and Ohio State and West Virginia comfortably covered their lines as well. Hope y’all got down on that wager. A 9-1 overall record for the week shows you should really check out SOTU for all of your football needs. Not just the Canes……we know football in general, y’all.
Anyways, on with this week’s picks…..
Lockity Lock of the Week:
TEXAS CHRISTIAN (-22.5) at Southern Methodist
Good absolute lord, get in on this rising line while you can. I’ll take a TCU -22.5 line right now all day, every day. SMU is a flaming dumpster fire on defense, and TCU should put up video game-esque numbers. Still don’t get why this line is so low, but yay for it anyways!
Other lines I like:
UCLA at OKLAHOMA (-31)
OU was unstoppable last week on both sides of the ball. UCLA is still getting its sea legs, while Wilton Speight is still a question mark for the Bruins. Bad time to be going to Norman, where Boomer Sooner will dominate for a second straight week.
Rutgers at OHIO STATE (-35)
Ohio State’s defense was lax on a few series last week. If they’ve shored that up, this is a track meet the Buckeyes win by a mile.
USC at STANFORD (-6)
USC obviously has the talent to win this game, but they’re still mired in the growing pains of a new QB. I’ll take Stanford here, who’s been tough at home, even recently against the Trojans.
Connecticut at BOISE STATE (-31) UConn is a steaming mess. Boise looked dominant at Troy last week. They’re playing on the Blue Turf. That’s all enough for me to go with the Broncos.
CLEMSON (-12) at Texas A&M
That Clemson defensive line will terrorize Jimbo Fisher’s offense, producing multiple short fields. Give me the Tiy-gahs.
Rice at HAWAII (-17)
Navy couldn’t stay within 17 at Hawaii last week. Why in the world should Rice?
Kansas at CENTRAL MICHIGAN (-4.5)
Kansas is the worst team in division 1 football. Central Michigan at least competed with a decent team in Kentucky last week. Chippewas at home.
Lines I wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole:
Michigan State (-6) at Arizona State
It’s a battle of the still-no-idea-who-we-are teams from the B1G and Pac 12. Pass.
Arky St at Alabama (-36.5)
Arky St isn’t terrible, and this has second-week 48-21 draggy victory written all over it. I should pick Arky St, but man, Bama could also roll up 42 points at half. Pass.
Miss St. (-8.5) at Kansas State
This has trap game written all over it for me. If K State plays anything like last week, Hail State covers. But will they? Can’t imagine that much of a gagger happening twice. Pass.
Teaser of the Week (6-point shift)
OKLAHOMA (-25) and the OVER (58.5) in UCLA/Oklahoma
Points, there will be a plenty, Speight or no Speight. OU will provide most of them, and the teams will combine for 59 or more.
Parlay of the week
TCU (-22.5) at SMU; Connecticut at BOISE STATE (-31); Rice at HAWAII (-17)
Let’s see if we can make it 2 weeks in a row….
Underdog pick of the week
Georgia at SOUTH CAROLINA (+10)
The Gamecocks showed last week that they still are coming on strong under Will Muschamp. Jake Bentley started off hot and has the arm and the talent around him to stay with the Dawgs in Columbia. I like Cocky with the points.
So, let’s hear it, Canes fam. Tell me why I’m wrong, and what YOU think is going to happen.
