The saga of WR Jeff Thomas has likely reached its conclusion.
After being dismissed from the Canes’ program in November, Thomas announced he was going to transfer to Illinois in December. After Mark Richt left and Manny Diaz took over as the Canes’ Head Coach, there were rumors and reports that Thomas was considering returning — or asking to return — to the Miami Football program.
After some tense days for Illinois fans, Thomas told Illinois beat writer Bob Asmussen that he intends to enroll in Champaign shortly and go through with his plan to transfer.

“I’m on my way now,” Thomas told The News-Gazette. “I’m really excited to get started at Illinois.”
Thomas said he never considered staying at Miami, but there are rumors and reports to the contrary. Whether those rumors are true or not is immaterial at this point; Thomas is heading North and that’s that.
It would have been nice to have Thomas, one of the most electric players on Miami’s roster and in the country, back on the roster, but that’s not how things are going.
Oh well. All the best, Jeff.
