As rumored earlier today, FootballScoop is reporting that the Miami Hurricanes are hiring Louisiana Tech DC Blake Baker to the same position in Coral Gables.
Sources: Manny Diaz has hired his defensive coordinator https://t.co/9lBHGSeLyD— FootballScoop Staff (@FootballScoop) January 3, 2019
Baker took over for Diaz at LT in 2015, and had worked together prior to that at Texas.
At just 32 years old, Baker is an up-and-comer in the coaching ranks, and his LT defenses did well in recent years. Most notably, the new NCAA career sack leader — Jaylon Ferguson — starred under Baker’s defensive leadership.
Baker runs a similar attacking defense to what Diaz has employed, so bringing him in makes total sense, to me.
The actual coaching assignments on defense for Miami are yet to be known, but Baker joins Jess Simpson, Ephraim Banda, Jonathan Patke, and Mike Rumph on that side of the ball coaching for the Canes.
More as this develops.
