Welcome to the U, Chigozie Nnoruka

UCLA transfer goes through the portal and from Westwood to Coral Gables

NCAA Football: UCLA at Stanford Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

Manny Diaz and the Miami Hurricanes added yet another player through the new Transfer Portal when UCLA DT Chigozie Nnoruka decided to take his talents to The New Miami.

As seen in the last embed, Nnoruka is a 6’2” 287lb interior lineman who will add depth to Miami’s DT rotation immediately. A grad transfer from UCLA, Nnoruka will come to Miami with 1 year to play, which was the same eligibility interaction that Tito Odenigbo had as he came to Miami this past season.

This is another good get for Miami. Nnoruka is a game-ready player who is looking to end his college career with a bang. And in Manny Diaz...uh....Blake Baker’s defense and playing for DL coach Jess Simpson, who helped Odenigbo find the success he never saw at his previous stop (Illinois), this could be a win-win for both team and player.

Nnoruka played more as a sophomore than as a junior. UCLA changed their defensive scheme and he was not really a fit. But, as a sophomore playing in a defense similar to what Miami’s scheme is, Nnoruka had 46 tackles, 8.0 TFLs, and 2.0 sacks. That’s pretty good for a DT and if he even has 50-75% of that production here at Miami in 2019, that’s a win for the Canes.

As I’m sure you know, Nnoruka is the 6th transfer into Miami via the NCAA’s new transfer portal. He joins Butler OT Tommy Kennedy, Ohio State QB Tate Martell, Auburn RB Asa Martin, Buffalo WR K.J. Osborn, and USC S Bubba Bolden in coming to Miami via transfer this offseason.

Welcome to the U, Chigozie!
