More key visits on deck for the Canes, both in Coral Gables and elsewhere in the CFB world

4-star ATH Mark-Antony Richards (Wellington, FL) will finally make his way to Coral Gables for an Official Visit.

Hello again, recruiting fan friends! It’s Friday, which means we have another Miami Hurricanes Official Visit Weekend on deck!

This is the penultimate Official Visit weekend of the contact period, and there is only 1 (!!!!!!) weekend after this until National Signing Day on February 6th. The time to make moves is now, and Manny Diaz’s Miami, the NEW Miami, is looking to do just that.

What moves, Cam? Who are you talking about? TELL US SOMETHING, CAM!!!!

Okay okay okay. I got you. Here are the OV’s for the weekend:

Miami Hurricanes Official Visits

4-star ATH/RB Mark-Antony Richards. Y’all know the name by now. Younger brother of former Canes WR Ahmmon Richards, Mark-Antony (who goes by Mark or the nickname MAR — his initials) is a top-tier player in his own right. Miami would obviously like to get him on the team, and his connection to new RB coach Eric Hickson who had previously been recruiting MAR at his previous jobs, could have a positive impact. Auburn, Penn State, Florida and Georgia are all battling with Miami for the multi-talented Wellington (FL) standout.

3-star S Martin Emerson Jr. Instead of going elsewhere, Emerson Jr. is coming back to Miami for his 2nd OV; this is allowed due to the fact that there was a coaching change at Miami. Things are trending heavily toward the 6’2” Pensacola (FL) Pine Forest standout to flip to Miami from Mississippi State. That could happen this weekend so stay tuned.

3-star DT Jared Harrison-Hunte. Another player coming in for his 2nd OV to Miami. The 6’4” 286lb NYC native Harrison-Hunte had planned to take a trip to Alabama this weekend, but canceled that on Thursday and instead will be in Coral Gables this weekend. Miami has made decent in-roads in the NYC are with 4-star DT signee Jason Blissett and 3-star OT Adam ElGammal, the latter of whom is teammates with Harrison-Hunte. Look for Miami to try and lock things down with a strong 2nd visit here.

3-star QB Peyton Matocha. Miami has been looking for a QB in this class, and Matocha may be the guy. This 6’4” Houston native had nearly 3700 yards and 35 TDs with 13 INTs passing and nearly 800 yards with 14 TDs rushing. OC/QB coach Dan Enos visited Matocha this week and Miami is in a good spot to push for a commitment in the near future, if not this weekend.

Miami is also trying to get 4-star WR George Pickens, an Auburn commit from Hoover (AL), to visit this weekend. No plans along those lines have been made at this time. But, “secret visits” happen all the time, so maybe Pickens comes down this weekend. Or maybe somebody else does. Or maybe not. We’ll see.

LATE UPDATE: So, between last night (when I wrote this) and this morning, Pickens, who is a newly minted 5-star prospect (bumped up from a consensus 4-star rating), is slated to take a visit to Coral Gables. Miami has been going exclusively after top-tier players at WR, even more than other positions. The Canes have not really looked at any player who isn’t a 5-star or 4-star rated recruit (you can debate the wisdom of that in the comments).

Miami has missed on a bunch of elite guys: 5-star Jadon Haselwood, 4-star Frank Ladson, 4-star John Dunmore, and more, but Miami did get elite 4-star Jeremiah Payton to sign and enroll early, so that was good. But, the other WR slot, the one to pair WITH Payton has sat empty throughout this class, and Pickens is the latest player Miami is chasing to try and fill that slot. So, getting him on campus for an OV is big.

BUT, the prevailing thought in the recruiting world is that despite this visit, Pickens will stick with his long-standing commitment to Auburn. I know that’s not optimal for Miami, but getting an OV this late in the game and shooting our metaphorical shot is just about the best-case scenario. And, this is recruiting, where stranger things than Pickens flipping to Miami have happened. So, let’s watch the visit and see what shakes.

Game on.

Last thing: there has been no confirmation that either Trevon Hill or Jaelen Phillips will visit Coral Gables this weekend as of the time of this article being composed. So y’all don’t have to ask me about that.

Targets taking Official Visits Elsewhere

4-star DE Khris Bogle - Florida. Despite his commitment to Alabama, multiple teams are chasing Bogle, who elected not to sign during the early period in December. Miami sent nearly the entire staff to recruit Bogle recently, and hope to get him back on campus before NSD on February 6. But this weekend, Bogle will be in Gainesville.

4-star CB Christian Williams - Texas A&M. Like Bogle, Williams is committed to Alabama but taking visits elsewhere. After a stellar trip to Coral Gables last week, the Daphne (AL) native Williams will be in College Station to visit aTm. Every visit is worth watching here as Miami continues to push for a flip. Or try, at least.

4-star QB Lance LeGendre - Florida State. Miami’s other recent QB offer recipient will be in Tallahassee to visit the Noles. The New Orleans (LA) native has become FSU’s top target, but likely isn’t the same for Miami. FSU will push for a commitment from LeGendre this weekend, and with Miami doing the same with Matocha, both schools could get their 2019 QB commits in the near future.

4-star CB Kaiir Elam - Colorado. I know, it’s shocking to me, too. North Palm Beach (FL) native and UF legacy Elam is going to Colorado this weekend. The Buffs have had a decent defense recently, but I find it hard to look at this as anything other than a free trip for Elam. Maybe he just wants to go snowboarding or something.

4-star DE Ja’Darien Boykin - Louisville. A week after visiting Miami, the Gray (GA) Jones County standout Boykin will be in Louisville. The recent chatter has been that Miami is waiting to see what happens with Bogle at DE before taking Boykin, but Louisville probably won’t have the same reservations. Several predictions have Boykin picking Louisville, which could happen either now or on NSD in a week and a half.

I THINK those are all the away games we have to watch this week, but LMK in the comments if I missed something.

Alright. That’s the visit landscape for this weekend. Vote in the poll and hop in the comments to talk some #crootin’
