Miami Hurricanes News and Notes — Former Miami Signee Jason Muñoz Opts For Syracuse

Muñoz was let go of his NLI and committed to the Orange following an official visit

Andrew Ivins, 247Sports

In an interesting turn of events, former Miami Hurricanes signee and St. Thomas Aquinas DT Jason Muñoz has committed to Syracuse following an official visit this past weekend. Miami had seemingly released him of his signed letter of intent, indicating that they may be interested in looking elsewhere at the position. Jason Blissett, Jalar Holley, and UCLA transfer Chigozi Nnoruka are set to join this Hurricanes for the 2019 season, so the move is understandable for both parties. Cam Underwood has the story here:

Manny Diaz and his staff are also chasing Jared Harrison-Hunte, a New York native and friend of signee Blissett. Many expect to him to join the 2019 class.

The Hurricanes are still strongly pursuing UCLA transfer LB/DE Jaelan Phillips and have been considered the leader for his services. I said last week that I thought he would be Cane by today, so I am here to eat crow. I do, however, still believe that he will be a Hurricane. The timeline of that commitment has gotten a little fuzzy over the last couple of days.

In other football news, the early enrolled freshman and transfers have received their jersey numbers: Tommy Kennedy (72), Asa Martin (20), K.J. Osborn (82, shoutout to the OG 82 Ahmonn Richards), Tate Martell (18), Jeremiah Payton (12), Jahfari Harvey (12), and Zion Nelson (60).

Bar Milo, the former 4-star OT from Chaminade HS in California and Brad Kaaya’s teammate, is no longer apart of the football team.

Dewan Hernandez was deemed ineligible for the rest of this season and 40% of next season, which is an absolutely disturbing ruling by the NCAA. Hernandez has, understandably, withdrawn from the university and began prepping for the 2019 draft. Austin Pert has more on the story.

And that is all from me this morning. Happy Tuesday and Go Canes!
