After a thrilling week of college football, both for the Miami Family and in general, the AP Poll has a new, SEC-flavored top two this week. Yes, two weeks after dropping to 2nd following a close victory over UNC, the Clemson Tigers are now 3rd. The Tigers crushed FSU, 45-14, but that didn’t stop LSU from leapfrogging them after an excellent victory over the now-9th ranked Florida Gators. Joe Burrow continued to look like a dark horse Heisman candidate, throwing three touchdowns in a 42-28 win.
Ohio State and Oklahoma round out the top five, respectively, despite the fact that Oklahoma handled Texas en route to their fourth Red River victory in the last five tries. Wisconsin and Penn State continue to impress as two other Big 10 undefeateds, holding onto the 6th and 7th spots respectively.
You may be wondering where a certain top-tier SEC team is - Georgia was shocked by a South Carolina team that took advantage of the Bulldogs en route to a 20-17 overtime upset. UGA fell seven spots, all the way to 10th after entering the week at 3rd. Texas and Iowa were also among the biggest fallers who remained in the top 25. Several teams, including the only other non-Clemson ACC teams, fell completely from the AP in Week 8. 19th ranked Wake Forest lost 62-59 to Louisville and UVA...well we know what happened to the Cavaliers.
Minnesota, Missouri, Appalachian State and Washington (welcome back!) also found their way into the Top 25. Baylor continues to sneak it’s way up the rankings, moving four spots to 18th and presenting an intriguing match up for Oklahoma in mid November.
