Final week of regular season play in Florida this weekend

This week marks the final week of regular season play for high school football teams in the state of Florida, where the Miami Hurricanes do the majority of their recruiting.

The Florida High School Athletic Association will announce playoff seeds and pairings for region playoffs on Sunday, after all of this week’s games are completed.

While some verbal commitments like Naples’ Dominic Mammarelli have already guaranteed themselves a spot in the region playoffs, others, like Belen Jesuit’s Don Chaney, have likely taken their final snaps as high school football players.

Check below for where all of Miami’s verbal commitments will be in action this week and check back later this week for an update on where these players will be playing in the region playoffs.

Class of 2020 Verbal Commitments

Quarterback

Tyler Van Dyke, Suffield (Ct.) Academy: The Tigers are off this week.

Running Back

Donald Chaney, Miami Belen Jesuit: After a 7-0 loss to Miami Southridge last week, the Wolverines finished the regular season 4-6 and will need major help to make the state playoffs.

Wide Receivers

Michael Redding III, Bradenton IMG Academy: The Ascenders will travel to Hoover (Al.) for their final game of the season on Friday at 7pm.

Marcus Fleming, Miami Northwestern: The Bulls will take on Miami Edison tonight at 7:30pm.

Xavier Restrepo, Deerfield Beach: The Bucks will host Hallandale tonight at 7pm in their regular season finale.

Tight End

Dominic Mammarelli, Naples: The Golden Eagles are off this week but will likely be the No.1 seed in their region and play a home playoff game on November 8 after a 9-0 regular season.

Offensive Line

Jalen Rivers, Orange Park Oakleaf: Oakleaf will take on Green Cove Springs Clay on the road tonight at 7pm.

Antonio Smith, Ocala Vanguard: Vanguard will take on rival Ocala Forest on the road tonight at 7pm.

Chris Washington, Nashville (Tn.) Overton: Overton will take on Nashville (Tn.) McGavock tonight at 5:30pm in its final game of the season.

Defensive Line

Chantz Williams, Orange Park Oakleaf: Oakleaf will take on Green Cove Springs Clay on the road tonight at 7pm.

Willie Moise, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna: Fresh off a three touchdown victory over Miami Central, the Lions will conclude their regular season by hosting Miramar Everglades tonight at 7pm.

Elijah Roberts, Miami Columbus: Columbus travels to take on Delray Beach Atlantic tonight at 7pm.

Tre’von Riggins, St. Petersburg Lakewood: The Spartans are looking to complete their undefeated regular season tonight at home against Fort Myers Dunbar.

Quentin Williams, Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek: The Mavericks play Cornelius (N.C.) Hough tonight at 7pm.

Linebackers

Romello Height, Dublin (Ga.): The Fighting Irish take on Live Oak Suwanee in a Florida-Georgia matchup at home tonight at 7:30pm.

Tirek Austin-Cave, Camden (N.J.): The Panthers take on Willingboro (N.J.) on the road tonight at 7pm.

Alvin Mathis, Largo: The Packers will host Wesley Chapel Wiregrass Ranch in their final regular season game at 7:30pm tonight.

Corey Flagg, Houston (Tx.) North Shore: The Mustangs will host Beaumont (Tx.) United tonight at 7pm.

Defensive Backs

Keshawn Washington, Homestead South Dade: South Dade will take on Hialeah tonight on the road at 7:30pm.

Daran Branch, Amite (La.): The Warriors will host Franklinton (La.) Pine tonight in search of their fifth straight win.

Marcus Clarke, Winter Park: Winter Park concluded the regular season with a 35-28 loss to Orlando Timber Creek last week.

Brian Balom, Miramar: The Patriots concluded the regular season with a 26-0 victory over Cooper City last week.

Class of 2021 Verbal Commitments

Running Back

Thad Franklin, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna: Fresh off a three touchdown victory over Miami Central, the Lions will conclude their regular season by hosting Miramar Everglades tonight at 7pm.

Wide Receivers

Romello Brinson, Miami Northwestern: The Bulls will take on Miami Edison tonight at 7:30pm.

Jacolby George, Plantation: The Colonels will take on Parkland Stoneman Douglas on the road tonight at 7pm.

Frederick Eaford, Hialeah: Hialeah will conclude the regular season by taking on South Dade tonight at 7:30pm.

Tight Ends

Kahlil Brantley, Miami Northwestern: The Bulls will take on Miami Edison tonight at 7:30pm.

Offensive Line

Laurence Seymore, Miami Central: Miami Central finished the regular season 7-3 and is awaiting its first round region playoff opponent in a game that the Rockets will host.

Defensive Line

Savion Collins, Miami Palmetto: Palmetto drilled Homestead 56-6 to conclude its regular season campaign.

Linebackers

Chamon Metayer, Miami Central: Miami Central finished the regular season 7-3 and is awaiting its first round region playoff opponent in a game that the Rockets will host.

Tyler Johnson, Homestead South Dade: South Dade lost to Miami Palmetto 46-42 in a barnburner on Thursday night.

Cortez McKenzie, St. Petersburg Lakewood: The Spartans are looking to complete their undefeated regular season tonight at home against Fort Myers Dunbar.

Defensive Backs

Tim Burns Jr., Miami Northwestern: The Bulls will take on Miami Edison tonight at 7:30pm.
