A day after 4-star RB Jaylan Knighton committed to Miami, Manny Diaz’s Hurricanes added yet another blue chip talent to the 2020 recruiting class when Hialeah (FL) Champagnat Catholic 4-star S Jalen Harrell committed to the Canes earlier today.

A well-built 6’2” 180lb (he looks bigger than that), Harrell is the kind of physical Safety Miami wants in the back end of the secondary. He’s also got good speed and more importantly plays fast on the field, which is the thing you really want to see.
LIke several others, Harrell was at one time committed to Florida State. However, with the Noles program an abject dumpster fire (which delights me personally to no end), Harrell elected to decommit from FSU and open up his recruitment. That was music to Miami’s ears.
Manny Diaz and company quickly made Harrell a priority for this class, setting up an unofficial visit to a game just 4 days after his decommitment from FSU, and an official visit to Coral Gables 3 weeks after that. Harrell visited other schools along the way, namely Georgia Tech and UCF, but Miami was swift and decisive in getting to the forefront of his reopened recruitment. And that work paid off with today’s commitment.
By getting Harrell to commit, Miami adds a top-tier, blue chip recruit to the 2020 recruiting class. At current, Harrell is the #233 overall player, #38 in the State of Florida, and #23 S in the country. I don’t care who you are, that’s damn good, and Miami has to feel ecstatic to be adding a player of this caliber. And doubly ecstatic because Harrell, who formerly attended Miami Central HS, is a local player. And triply ecstatic because they flipped Harrell away from Florida State.
As noted above, Harrell committed to Miami over Florida State — where he was formerly committed — as well as offers from Georgia Tech and UCF from a list of 17 scholarship offers. Harrell is the 3rd Safety in Miami’s 2020 recruiting class, joining Homestead (FL) South Dade 3-star Keshawn Washington and Miramar (FL) 3-star Brian Balom.
