Miami came in at No.4 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s 2020 preseason rankings. The Hurricanes are expected to be a contender to return to Omaha this season and these rankings provide further evidence of that expectation.
The Hurricanes were one of two ACC teams ranked in the Top 10. The other team, Louisville, comes in at No.1 in the preseason poll, which sets up the ‘Canes series with the Cardinals as one of the best series of the year.
In total, the ACC had six teams within the Top 25; the aforementioned two teams in the Top 5, No.13 North Carolina, No.15 Florida State, No.16 N.C. State, and No.17 Wake Forest. Additionally, Georgia Tech was ranked just outside the Top 25 at No.28. Mid-week opponent Florida Atlantic was also ranked at No.40, and out-of-conference opponent Florida was ranked at No.14.
The ACC also had three teams receiving votes that were just barely unranked in Virginia, Clemson, and Duke. Considering those teams, the ACC had 10 teams either ranked or receiving votes in the Top 40, which sets it up as one of the best baseball conferences in America yet again.
Miami will face one of the toughest schedules in the nation, and that again became obvious in this rankings. The Hurricanes will play series against the teams ranked 1,13,14,15,28, and 40. The ‘Canes will have to be at their best every time they take the field.
