The Contact period is live, which means Official Visits are happening in earnest! With just 2 weekends before the Early Signing Period, teams all over the country are doing their best to bring in top targets and make moves. The Miami Hurricanes are doing just that, because that’s how things work.
Let’s look at who will be making their way to Coral Gables this weekend:
Miami Hurricanes Official Visits
5-star TE Darnell Washington. The Nation’s #1 TE will make his way from Las Vegas to Coral Gables to give Miami another look. The 6’8” 260lb Washington previously visited for Paradise camp, and TE coach Stephen Field has done his best to build and maintain a relationship with the elite prospect. Georgia and Alabama are the main competition for Washington, and probably stand in front of Miami in his recruiting picture. But Miami got him on campus this weekend and will shoot their shot and see what happens.
4-star LB Keyshawn Greene. The co-headliner this weekend, Greene is a rangy OLB with sideline to sideline speed. The 6’3” 195lb Greene is committed to Florida State but Miami is working to get him to flip. That won’t be easy for the Crawfordville product as his hometown is in the panhandle near Tallahassee, but FSU STILL doesn’t have a coach and Greene is looking to enroll early. Greene would have a spot at Miami if he should want it, and that’s regardless of what #1 LB Justin Flowe decides to do. Both fit in at either a LB or “best available” scholarship slot because, well, they’re that good.
3-star OL Kobe Baynes. A Louisville commit, the Jacksonville (FL) Sandalwood product has good size for an interior lineman. While Baynes has maintained he’s solid in his committment to Louisville, he’s taking a visit to MIami this week and, well....maaayyyybe he’s not as solidly committed as he’s leading on in interviews. If there’s anyone onf flip/commit watch this weekend, it’s Baynes, IMO.
3-star CB Davonte Brown. The son of former Canes S Selwyn Brown, Davonte is a 6’2” corner with length from Ft. Lauderdale (FL) American Heritage. The 3-star prospect seems to have risen up CB coach Mike Rumph’s board, and Miami is now in the mix for Brown’s commitment. He is also considering UCF and Pittsburgh. Brown has size, speed, and skill, but is a bit thin and might need a season (or two) of physical development before he’s a rotation player. But, Michael Jackson followed that developmental path and and ended his career as a 2nd team All-ACC player. In any event, Brown’s decision will likely come on December 18th when the Early Signing Period begins.
3-star S Doneiko Slaughter. Another player committed elsewhere, the Arizona State commit from Roswell (GA) will make his 2nd visit to Coral Gables. It will be interesting to see how hard Miami pushes here, with 3 Safeties already committed in this class and guys like 4-star Jaiden Francois (a 2 time commit AND decommit) and 3-star Ole Miss (and former Miami) commit Daran Branch (Amite, LA) still on the board as well.
Targets Taking Visits Elsewhere
None of note. The top uncommitted target 5-star LB Flowe) isn’t taking a visit this weekend. The other top target 5-star TE Washington is coming to Miami this weekend. And the entirety of Miami’s 2020 commit group is staying home this weekend before their mass official visit to Coral Gables next weekend.
So....that’s pretty good, I think. I mean.....as long as no secret visits pop up over the course of this weekend.
That’s about it. The contact period is here and Official Visits are underway. And for the Miami Hurricanes, let’s hope Manny Diaz’s crew makes moves on some key targets as the Early Signing Period approaches.
As always, here’s the Official Visit O/U poll
