ACC Basketball Power Rankings: 2/12

1. Duke Blue Devils (LW: 1) 21-2 (9-1)

Last Week: W vs BC 80-55, W @ UVA 81-71; Next Week: @ Louisville 2/12, vs NC State 2/16

The Blue Devils are the clear front-runner in the ACC (and in the NCAA) after taking down UVA for the second time this season. What was even more terrifying was the fact that Duke shot 58% from the field and 62% from 3 against the nation’s top defense.

2. Virginia Cavaliers (LW: 2) 21-2 (9-2)

Last Week: L vs Duke 71-81, W @ UNC 69-61; Next Week: vs ND 2/16, @ VT 2/18

UVA rebounded from a disappointing performance at home vs Duke with a quality victory over top-10 opponent UNC on the road. They may not be able to solve the Blue Devils, but the Cavaliers are still a force to be reckoned with

3. North Carolina Tar Heels (LW: 3) 19-5 (9-2)

Last Week: W vs NC State 113-96, W vs Miami 88-85, L vs UVA 61-69; Next Week: @ Wake 2/16

A week that started with a huge 113-point output against NC State slowly trended downward with a uneasy overtime victory against a struggling Miami team, and culminated with a late collapse against UVA Monday night.

4. Louisville Cardinals (LW: 4) 17-7 (8-3)

Last Week: L @ FSU 75-80 Next Week: vs Duke 2/12, vs Clemson 2/16

The Cardinals couldn’t get the job done in OT in Tallahassee, but their overall performance this season is still a positive development in a program that was in shambles last year.

5. Florida State Seminoles (LW: 7) 18-5 (6-4)

Last Week: W vs Syracuse 80-62, W @ Louisville 80-75; Next Week: vs Wake 2/13, @ GT 2/16

After a rough 1-4 start to the conference slate, the Seminoles have found their way, winning their last 5 games by an average margin of 10.8 points.

6. Syracuse Orange (LW: 5) 17-7 (8-3)

Last Week: L vs FSU 62-80, W vs BC 67-56; Next Week: @ NC State 2/13

The Orange were the conference’s most dangerous team back in January, but Jim Boeheim and Co. appear to be falling back to earth after being soundly defeated by a resurgent Florida State squad.

7. Virginia Tech Hokies (LW: 6) 18-5 (7-4)

Last Week: L @ Clemson 51-59; Next Week: vs GT 2/13, @ Pitt 2/16, vs UVA 2/18

The Hokies have now lost 2 in a row and are in dire need of a jolt to their offense, which is averaging 54 points per game over their last 3 games.

8. Clemson Tigers (LW: 9) 15-8 (5-5)

Last Week: W @ GT 65-42, W vs VT 59-51; Next Week: @ Miami 2/13, @ Louisville 2/16

The Tigers pulled off a huge upset of the 11th ranked Hokies to push their winning streak to 4 games. G Marcquise Reed has been one of the top scorers in the ACC with 18.9 points per game.

9. NC State Wolfpack (LW: 8) 17-7 (5-6)

Last Week: L @ UNC 96-113, W @ Pitt 79-76; Next Week: vs Syracuse 2/13, @ Duke 2/16

In-state rivals UNC capped off a rough 3-game stretch against ranked opponents for the Wolfpack by dropping 113 points. However, NC State was able to snap their losing streak with an important victory over Pitt.

10. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (LW: 10) 11-13 (3-8)

Last Week: L vs Clemson 42-65, L @ ND 69-59; Next Week: @ VT 2/13, vs FSU 2/16

The Yellow Jackets 5-game losing streak has pushed them below .500 for the year, giving the ACC 3 teams with losing records.

11. Pittsburgh Panthers (LW: 11) 12-12 (2-9)

Last Week: L @ Wake 76-78, L vs NC State 76-79; Next Week: @ BC 2/12, vs VT 2/16

The Panthers went 0-2 last week in the hardest way possible, losing by a combined 5 points. Pitt has a great opportunity to finish on the other end of the box score as they travel north to Boston College.

12. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (LW: 12) 13-11 (3-8)

Last Week: L @ Miami 47-62, W vs GT 69-59; Next Week: @ UVA 2/16

Notre Dame had no answer for the Canes earlier in the week, but were able to regroup in time to knock off Georgia Tech. The Irish will be hoping for a miracle when UVA hosts ND this week.

13. Miami Hurricanes (LW: 14) 10-13 (2-9)

Last Week: W vs ND 62-47, L @ UNC 85-88; Next Week : vs Clemson 2/13, @ BC 2/17

The Canes had a solid week with a convincing win over Notre Dame followed by a near-upset of top-10 ranked UNC. Chris Lykes put the team on his back in Chapel Hill with 27 points, and he will likely need to do so again against a Clemson team that has been hot of late.

14. Boston College Eagles (LW: 13) 11-11 (2-9)

Last Week: L @ Duke 55-80, L @ Syracuse 67-56; Next Week: vs Pitt 2/12, vs Miami 2/17

BC is having a season they’d like to forget, however, junior guard Ky Bowman is putting together a season to remember, leading the Eagles in Points, rebounds and assists.

15. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (LW: 15) 9-13 (2-8)

Last Week: W vs Pitt 78-76; Next Week: @ Florida State 2/13, vs UNC 2/16

Wake pulled out a win in OT against Pitt for their first victory since 1/15. There’s not a lot of time to celebrate, however, as this week brings two ranked opponents in FSU and UNC.
