The Miami Hurricanes pulled off their biggest NSD coup in ages today when 4-star Under Armour All-American Daphne (AL) CB Christian Williams announced he was signing with the Canes moments ago.
Christian Willilams commits to Miami!

A dynamic 6’1” 182lb cornerback, Williams was previously committed to Alabama. However, that commitment was soft, at best, and he took visits to several schools looking around for a future home. Williams visited Miami, Texas A&M, and LSU ahead of signing day.
Heading into those visits, the overwhelming sentiment was that Williams would flip from Alabama to LSU. Everybody thought that. We wrote that. Other recruiting writers and analysts wrote and reported it. That was pretty much going to be a done deal.
Then LSU looked to keep a top CB commitment in the class, giving them 4 CBs in 2019, and the depth chart suddenly wasn’t as favorable for Williams, who would likely step into a rotation role (if not a starting role) very early on with the Canes. After reports started leaking that Williams to LSU wasn’t as certain an outcome as it once looked, things just got rolling. Williams reportedly called Miami and told the staff he was coming to The U a day or so before NSD, and that was that.
Though he played CB exclusively in HS, Williams has the versatility to play both CB and S at the college level. With Miami having several high end Safeties on the roster, and the dire need for additional CBs, Williams will get a long look at CB for the Canes before any consideration of moving him inside full-time happens.
Make no mistake about it: this is a BIG GET for Miami. Williams is built and plays in the mold of former Canes star CB, 1st round NFL draft pick, and now CB coach Mike Rumph, and he add depth and the top end talent that Miami needs at this position. An Under Armour All-American, Williams demonstrated repeatedly through his HS career that he’s a top prospect, and getting him on the roster — and away from Alabama and LSU — is big for Miami.
It is well known that the Canes have struggled to get super premium CBs through recruiting over the last decade or so. Yes, Rumph has developed the ones on the roster well, but the misses on the trail — Tyson Campbell, Patrick Surtain II, Tyrique Stevenson, Tarvarus McFadden, Trayvon Mullen, and the list goes on — is substantial. Now, getting a player of Williams’s caliber to pair with Rumph’s demonstrated ability to develop talent is a massive addition to the roster. This is huge, you guys.
Williams signed with Miami after flipping from his previous commitment to Alabama, and over a robust list of 21 offers, including LSU, Texas A&M, and Oregon. He is the 2nd CB in this class, joining Te’Cory Couch at that position this year for Miami.
