Throughout the 2019 cycle, Miami and Elam have had an on-again, off-again relationship. Both player and school have shared various levels of interest throughout the cycle, and there have been multiple visits to games and campus made by Elam.
But, the elephant in the room the whole time was the fact that Elam’s cousin is former UF star Safety Matt Elam, and even if there was legit interest in Miami, that wasn’t going to go away. And, in the end, the familial connection to the Gators won out, and resulted in today’s commitment.
Miami has already signed 4-star Te’Cory Couch at CB in this class, Couch’s teammate 4-star S Keontra Smith, and is chasing after other players at DB as well. So, this loss could be mitigated by the addition of another player, but that’s yet to be seen.
Onward we go.
