Miami moved to 13-3 (2-1 ACC) with a 4-3 win over the Jackson State Tigers. Miami got a solid start from Tyler Keysor in the win, and got a great five innings from the bullpen. Miami will hope to finish the sweep of the Tigers tomorrow before a tough series on the road against North Carolina this weekend.

Before the game Miami’s bullpen continued their routine of the football play before the game, and if you haven’t seen it, you should:

The Hurricanes got on the board early. In the bottom of the first JSU starter Francisco Urena walked the first three batters of the game and was taken out in favor of Nikelle Galatas. Miami scored with an RBI fielder’s choice from Adrian Del Castillo, but couldn’t push another run across in the inning.

Over the next three innings the Tigers fought back and took the lead. In the top of the second Raul Hernandez hit a solo home run that tied things at one. Two innings later in the fourth the Tigers loaded the bases with no outs, and a run scored on a double play to make the score 2-1 JSU.

Miami fought back in the bottom of the fifth. Jordan Lala reached on a single and Anthony Vilar followed him with a walk. Freddy Zamora then continued his hot streak by pushing an RBI double to right field that tied the game at two. Adrian Del Castillo and Alex Toral both followed with sac-flies to make the game 4-2 in favor of the Canes.

Besides one unearned run in the top of the sixth Miami got great work out of their bullpen to earn the victory. Greg Veliz worked the seventh and the eighth and struck out every batter he faced in one of the best outings of his career. In the top of the ninth Daniel Federman earned his fourth save of the season with a 1-2-3 inning.

Miami will come out tomorrow looking to keep their positive momentum with a win ahead of a tough weekend in ACC play. These mid-week games are crucial for Miami to win and they’ve done a good job of handling them so far this season. The ‘Canes will look for their fifth mid-week win of the season tomorrow.
