For the second time in the past three seasons, the Canes Womens Basketball has earned one of the 16 hosting sites for the NCAA Tournament. Unlike the men’s tournament where game sites are predetermined, every 1, 2, 3 and 4 seed in the women’s tournament hosts two round of 64 games and the round of 32 game. The 15th ranked Canes women were named a 4 seed in the Portland region, and will take on 13 seed and Atlantic Sun champions Florida Gulf Coast Friday at 9pm ET. The game will be aired on ESPN2 and can be streamed on the WatchESPN app.
Joining Miami and FGCU in Coral Gables will be 5 seed Arizona State and 12 seed UCF. The winners of both games will return to the Watsco Center on Sunday for the round of 32 matchup. This is Coach Katie Meier’s 5th straight tournament appearance, and 10th straight appearance in the postseason. The last time FGCU and the Canes met was in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament, in which the Canes advanced with a 62-60 victory.
