Miami dropped to 15-6 (3-3 ACC) after a terrible mid-week loss to the Columbia Lions. The Hurricanes managed to plate a meager two runs, one of which was off of an error, and played terrible in the field.
Columbia scored runs in the fourth, sixth, and eighth to top the Hurricanes. In the fourth Freddy Zamora dropped a fly out which allowed a runner to reach. The runner eventually scored on a two-out single to center. The sixth saw two runs score when Slade Cecconi walked home a run with the bases loaded and Greg Veliz followed by allowing an RBI single that also should have been caught. In the eighth Columbia scored their fourth run on a wild pitch.
The Hurricanes had just six hits in the game today, and committed two errors on the scorecard but was essentially four considering the actuality of events. At this point the defensive issues are becoming more and more of an issue, they are now so bad that they directly led to the loss of a game.
Columbia is just 3-10 on the season. This weekend Miami plays a Top 10 team in the country in N.C. State that is 20-1 on the season. The Hurricanes will get run out of their own building this weekend if they don’t start playing better. The last three games have been atrocious, but its’ time to forget them and move on.
