Who Can PLAY for a National Championship?

To win the national championship, you have to get there. So, I thought "what if we forget about championships for a moment and just look at which teams have actually made it far enough to PLAY for it?" This is what I came up with, by conference:

1. The SEC has 6 different teams which have played in either a BCS or CFP national championship game (since 1998).

2. The ACC is right behind them with 4 teams (although two of those - Virginia Tech and Miami - played in theirs while they were still in the Big East).

3. No other conference has more than two teams with BCS/CFP championship experience. In fact, over the last 17 years, the Big Ten has been a one-horse race (Ohio State).

Another way of looking at it is "how many teams in the conference has never made it to the championship game"? For the SEC, the answer is 8 teams; The Big XII also has 8 championship "virgins". Both the Pac-12 and the ACC have 10 teams which have never gotten to the final game. The Big Ten, on the other hand, has the most (12) teams which are totally unacquainted with the BCS/CFP championship game.

Yet they say the ACC has too much "dead weight"?

Thoughts? It's a L-O-N-G off season... which title game "virgin" will be the next to play for the championship?
