The Miami Hurricanes announced on Saturday that LB Waynmon Steed has sustained a knee injury and will undergo surgery. Here is the release on the topic from Miami Athletics:
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football program announced Saturday that redshirt sophomore linebacker Waynmon Steed has sustained a left knee injury.
Steed will undergo surgery at the UHealth Sports Medicine Institute at The Lennar Foundation Medical Center. A timetable for his return will be determined after surgery.
Steed, a native of Miami, played in five games last season.
Miami desperately needs depth behind the starting LBs, and Steed was a player who was thought to potentially be in line to provide that depth. He may be able to do so if the recovery time from his surgery allows, but for now, the Canes should be looking for options in case Steed isn’t able to return this season.
With minimal game experience behind them, Shaquille Quarterman, Michael Pinckney and Zach McCloud will be tasked with playing nearly every defensive snap in 2019. A tall task, even for players of their caliber.
We wish Waynmon Steed the best with his surgery and the future recovery from that surgery.
