100 Greatest Plays In Miami History: #99-Chris T. Jones Catch Vs FSU 1994

An incredible one handed catch helped Miami secure an upset win over the Seminoles in 1994.

DENNIS ERICKSON MIAM

Coming in at number-99 on this countdown is a catch from 1994, in a game between the Hurricanes and their rivals to the north, Florida State. On a Saturday night in front of a rowdy Orange Bowl, the 13th ranked Canes hosted the third-ranked Seminoles, as Miami tried to get back into the National Championship hunt.

The game was filled with incredible talent on both squads. On Miami’s side, you had future Hall-of-Famers Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis, plus an eventual movie star in Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Over on the FSU sideline, you had Danny Kanell, Warrick Dunn and also Derrick Brooks.

Midway through the contest, Miami quarterback Frank Costa connected with senior receiver Chris T. Jones on the sideline. The result was one of the greatest catches in UM history.

Jones had been a solid receiver option for the Canes since he arrived in Coral Gables as a freshman in 1991. The year prior in 1993, Jones finished with 45 receptions, a career high 700 yards and four touchdowns. Now as a senior in 94, Jones knew that Costa would be counting on him, especially with the defending champion Seminoles in town. His incredible catch gave Miami a first down, on their way to not just a touchdown on that drive, but also a 34-20 victory over Bobby Bowden and FSU.

This won’t be the last time you see a play from this game on this list......

What’ll number-98 be??

GO CANES!
