Former Canes center Dewan Hernandez completed the first day of the NBA Combine on Thursday, shortly after earning an invite to the pre-draft event with his performance at the NBA G League Elite Camp. 64 draft-hopefuls took part in a series of drills, interviews with NBA executives, and questions from the media before splitting up into 4 teams to compete in 2 40-minute scrimmages.
Here are all of Hernandez’s measurements:
Height w/o Shoes: 6’ 9”
Height w/ Shoes: 6’ 10.25”
Weight: 232.8 lbs
Body Fat %: 6.1%
Standing Reach: 8’ 11”
Wingspan: 7’ 1.75”
Hand Length: 9.5”
Hand Width: 10.25”
Hernandez was the shortest center in attendance with the shortest wingspan, but also showed how hard he’s been working to keep himself in shape with only 6.1% body fat. Where Hernandez truly shined, however, were in the agility drills (rank among centers in parenthesis):
Lane Agility Time: 11.46 seconds (2nd)
Shuttle Run: 3.25 seconds (2nd)
Three Quarter Sprint: 3.30 seconds (2nd)
Standing Vertical Leap: 30.5 inches (1st)
Max Vertical Leap: 35.5 inches (1st)
The former 5-star recruit out of Miami Norland High School also stood out during his scrimmage session, with Celtics.com reporting:
“Dewan Hernandez missed all of last season due to an NCAA rules violation, but the Miami product was far from rusty during his scrimmage session Thursday afternoon. The 6-foot-9 center was not shy on the offensive end, where he tallied 14 points on a game-high 13 field goal attempts.”
The combine continues through Sunday, May 19th ahead of the draft on Thursday, June 20th.
