Entering the 1981 year, the Miami Hurricanes, under head coach Howard Schnellenberger had much to look forward to, and had a lot of people buzzing.

In the season-opening game, the #17 Florida Gators invaded the Orange Bowl with nearly 74,000 in attendance. Jim Kelly would start the game for Miami at quarterback, but an injury forced backup Mark Richt into the game. Yes, that Mark Richt.

Down 20-18 in the fourth quarter, Richt drove Miami down to the edge of field goal range, with under a minute to go.

Bouncing off the upright and in, Danny Miller sent shockwaves around UM, and gave the Hurricanes a 21-20 victory.
