What does Vegas think of the Canes heading into this season?

We’re deep into the dog days of summer, and with it comesall the speculation for the upcoming season that you could ever desire. Awards watchlists will start coming out this month; our summer previews here at SOTU are WELL underway; and not to be left out, Las Vegas hopped in the mix, as well.

Earlier today, Caesar’s entertainment released their over/unders for the 2019 College Football Season. This sets the line for teams, and also has one side or the other — over the given number of wins, or under it — favored for the team this upcoming season.

Caesar’s set this year’s Over/Under at:

Miami Hurricanes 8.5

Moreover, the “under” — Miami winning 8 games or less — is the favored option at -120, while the “over” — Miami winning 9 games or more — is even money.

So, what does that say? It says that, as of today, Caesar’s leans slightly towards Miami being an 8-4 team in 2019. It’s not out of the question that the Canes could win more than that — the over has only marginally lower odds — but that’s where Vegas sees Miami at present.

Now, before you get your Orange and Green feelings riled up, these projections are based off of the 2018 season AND what is already known about the Canes. There are, however, plenty of variables that can, and hopefully will, change things. Variables like Manny Diaz being the new Head Coach. And Dan Enos being the new OC/QB coach. And David Feeley being the new Strength and Conditioning coach. And a slew of new players. And development and progression by the returning players. And a relatively easy — but oddly laid out — schedule. And more.

Now, Caesar’s didn’t just release Miami’s O/U. They released all the P5 conferences. So, here’s a quick rundown of the over/unders for the ACC, and Miami’s P5 non-conference opponent: Florida.

In alphabetical order:

  • Boston College — 6.5
  • Clemson — 11.5
  • Duke — 5.5
  • Florida — 9
  • Florida State — 7
  • Georgia Tech — 4
  • Louisville — 3.5
  • Miami — 8.5
  • North Carolina — 5
  • NC State — 7.5
  • Pittsburgh — 5.5
  • Syracuse — 7.5
  • Virginia —7.5
  • Virginia Tech — 8
  • Wake Forest — 5.5

With the highest O/U number yet again, the Miami Hurricanes enter the 2019 as the clear (but not overwhelming) favorites in the Coastal division. Now, it’s up to the coaches and players to meet, and exceed this number, and get back to the ACC Championship game for the 2nd time in 3 seasons.

Is an 8.5 O/U number heading into this season fair for Miami? Is the under (8-4 or worse) being favored fair? If your money was on the line, which way would you bet (for entertainment purposes only, of course)? Hop in the comments and let me know your thoughts.
