Washington, a 5-star recruit and the 11th ranked player in the 2020 recruiting class, praised Miami for its use of tight ends, and the strong tradition of talent.
Darnell Washington heavily impressed during Paradise Camp in June — building chemistry with quarterback Tyler Van Dyke — a commit in Miami’s 2020 class.
Miami is considered ‘Tight End U’ for good reason — the names of Hurricane legends such as David Njoku, Jeremy Shockey, and Greg Olsen may help the ‘Canes on the recruiting trail, as they’ll have to compete with schools like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU for Washington’s commitment.
“That’s TEU,” Washington stated in an interview with 247Sports ($). “Everyone talks about using the tight end but with Miami, you can see it and their tradition at the position is really strong… I like Manny Diaz a lot, he’s involved recruiting me and I think I would fit in really well there. Brevin (Jordan) is already there and I always have people hitting me up saying they need another tight end from the 702 (area code). I was there for the Paradise Camp and loved it there.”
Miami would have an incredible corps of tight ends with the addition of Washington. The position group may still contain Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory in 2021 — creating a truly ‘un-coverable’ 3-headed monster.
Hopefully, Washington chooses to ensure the future, and uphold the legacy of ‘Tight End U.’
