You see the title, you don’t need a long explanation surrounding the play. If you’re a Miami Hurricanes fan, you know what 3rd and 43 means.

It was the signature play of one of the most historic wins in UM history, when first year coach Dennis Erickson defeated the #1 and previously unbeaten Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Craig Erickson, quarterback for the Canes, connected with receiver Randal Hill on this conversion to move the chains, on their way to a 27-10 win, and eventually the national championship.
