REPORT: Miami Hurricanes CB D.J. Ivey out for season opener

CB depth takes more of a hit if this report is true

According to a report by 560 WQAM radio analyst and former Miami Hurricanes punter Brian Monroe, sophomore CB D.J. Ivey will not be available for tonight’s season opener.

An “OR” choice to start opposite Trajan Bandy at cornerback, Ivey is a player that Miami will need to step up in a big way this season. The reason for Ivey’s absence was not initially listed in the report by Monroe.

In Ivey’s potential absence, fellow sophomore CB Al Blades Jr. will likely move into the starting lineup for the Canes. And, with Ivey out, Miami would be down to only 4 scholarship corners: Bandy, Blades Jr., and true freshmen Te’Cory Couch and Christian Williams. That is paper thin depth at a key defensive position.

If Ivey is truly going to miss this game, I expect Miami to use Safety Bubba Bolden and maybe former CB and current STRIKER Gilbert Frierson to augment the rotation at CB.

This piece will be updated if/when more information is available.
