Another week in the season, another week to root for, and against, the teams in the ACC. Which is which? Let’s get into it.
Boston College Eagles (2-1, 1-0 ACC) at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-1, 0-1 B1G), 12:00 noon, Big Ten Network
Boston College is coming off a loss last week. Good thing for them they’re playing Rutgers and the worst starting QB in the P5: Art Sitkowski!!! (man, did we ever luck out by mutually splitting from him and getting Jarren Williams instead OR WHAT?!?!)
Who to root for: Boston College. Because, I mean......who roots for Rutgers?
Elon Phoenix (2-1, 1-0 CAA) at Wake Forest Demon Deacons (3-0, 0-0 ACC), 12:00 noon, RSN (that still exists?)
Wake Forest is one of the hottest teams in the country and off to a 3-0 start, including last week’s NON-CONFERENCE win against North Carolina. Elon, well, I know them for basketball more than football, but they’re a respectable 2-1 so far this season. I don’t expect that to be the case after this game is over.
Who to root for: Wake Forest, because SOMEBODY has to challenge Clemson on the other side of the conference, right?
Western Michigan Broncos (2-1, 0-0 MAC) at Syracuse Orange (1-2, 0-1 ACC), 12:00 noon, ACC Network
Another “Directional School” matchup against an ACC team, WMU heads north to Syracuse. The Orange are coming off a tough loss to Clemson, and looking to get right with a win this week.
Who to root for: Syracuse. It’s better for the conference as a whole.
Appalachian State Mountaineers (2-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) at North Carolina Tar Heels (2-1, 1-0 ACC), 3:30pm, RSN
OOOOOO!!!! This is a good game! AppSt under new coach Eli Drinkwitz heads to Chapel Hill to face Mack Brown and the Tar Heels. Miami has already been to Chapel Hill this year (no, I don’t want to talk about it) but UNC doesn’t look nearly like the team the Canes faced that night any more.
Who to root for: AppSt. Why? (and you have to sing this next part like the Pharrell song) BECAUSE I’M PETTYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
Louisville Cardinals (2-1, 0-0 ACC) at Florida State Seminoles (1-2, 0-1 ACC), 3:30pm, ESPN
The lone ACC conference game of the week, the new-look Cardinals head to Doak Campbell to face an FSU team looking to right their ship. Miami plays both of these teams later on this season (in November, in case you’re wondering), so this is a game that I’ll be watching closely.
Who to root for: Louisville. I think the wheels could come off at FSU and I, for one, WANT TO SEE THAT HAPPEN!!!!!! Why? You know the drill.
UCF Golden Knights (3-0, 0-0 AAC) at Pittsburgh Panthers (1-2, 0-1 ACC), 3:30pm, ABC/ESPN2
UCF is fresh off a blowout win over Stanford (who isn’t the Stanford you remember right now, but that doesn’t matter). Pitt is coming off a close loss to rival Penn State. Pitt is not that good, and UCF is pretty good, and VERY fast. Uh oh.
Who to root for: Pitt, because UCF fans are among the worst in sports and I don’t want to hear their mouths.
Central Michigan Chippewas (2-1, 1-0 MAC) at Miami Hurricanes (1-2, 0-1 ACC), 4:00pm, ACC Network
I mean, do I really have to give you a full narrative here?
Who to root for: Miami. This is State of the U. We’re all about the Canes over here!
Ball State Cardinals (1-2, 0-0 MAC) at North Carolina State Wolfpack (2-1, 0-0 ACC), 7:00pm, ESPNU
Ball State is bad to average-ish. NC State just lost to West Virginia by 17 and is looking for revenge. Yikes, Testicle Tech!
Who to root for: NC State
Old Dominion (1-1, 0-0 CUSA) at Virginia Cavaliers (3-0, 2-0 ACC), 7:00pm, ESPN2
Old Dominion is a hopefully (for them) plucky team from a mid-major conference. Virginia stands at the top of the ACC Coastal at 3-0 with 2 conference wins, including one over FSU last week. I know who I’ll be rooting for, but it won’t do any good. If Miami wants Virginia to lose, we’re going to have to handle our own dirty work on October 11th.
Who to root for: Old Dominion, but just know they’re gonna lose
Charlotte 49ers (2-1, 0-0 CUSA) at Clemson Tigers (3-0, 2-0 ACC), 7:00pm ACC Network
Last week’s game at Syracuse was probably going to be the last test for Clemson in the regular season. Absent a rash of injuries to key players, the Tigers are going to roll every week, including this one.
Who to root for: Clemson. I mean, it’s good to see elite teams play like elite teams. Until they play Miami in the ACC Championship this December, that is.
That’s who EYE will be rooting for in the ACC this week. Who will you be cheering on?
