Happy Sunday Canes fam! Let’ get into the news and notes:

Canes beat Central Michigan 17-12

It wasn’t pretty, but Miami got their 2nd win to even the record heading into bye week #2 on the year.

Gaby Urrutia was on hand and penned our game recap.

Carl Bleich pinch-hit and selected our 3 stars from the game.

And I (Cam) hopped in with our weekly Good, Bad, and Ugly breakdown with team grades.

It was a win, sure, but this game doesn’t leave a good taste in your mouth. Miami was a near-5TD favorite (31 points) against CMU and was stuck in a dogfight wit the Chippewas all day long. The run game couldn’t do anything. The defense was off balance, letting CMU convert 3rd and 4th downs repeatedly.

Gaby touched on it in the recap, and I opined about it in G/B/U, but......IDK. Good isn’t good enough and this team has a LONG way to go, IMO.

On to the Bye Week

In case you didn’t already know, Miami now has a bye week before jumping into the heart of their ACC schedule to start October.

What’s that mean? Well, extra time to fix the MANY glaring issues and undone details on this team. Time for players to get healthy. Guys have been dinged up so far this year, and other guys like Nesta Jade Silvera and Patrick Joyner Jr. are working their way back from injury and look to hit the field for the first time this year.

It’s also time to re-evaluate snaps/player usage. The Offensive Line is clearly a place to start, but Safety and Wide Receiver could maybe take another look, as well.

And the last thing, one that we haven’t talked about much here on SOTU recently, is recruiting. The coaches will have a full weekend to hit the road and check out games. I know the paradigm is to recruit locally in a major way, but there are options and targets all over the country. We’ll see where the coaches go this week, but I’m sure that without a game to actively get ready for this week, recruiting moves up the to-do list considerably.

That’s it for today. We’ll have more game commentary and analysis shortly.
