Miami Hurricanes Recruiting Radar: 5-star 2021 QB Jake Garcia commits to USC

Miami went from in the driver seat to on the outside looking in QUICKLY

It has been well-known that Miami’s prime target at QB in 2021 is Harbor City (CA) Narbonne 5-star Jake Garcia. The talented signal caller has visited Miami already and has a good connection with OC/QB coach Dan Enos.

However, after a whirlwind couple of days, Garcia has committed to the USC Trojans.

USC just lost a commitment from a 5-star 2020 QB (who flipped to Alabama) so the path to the starting job in a few years is more open than it was heading into the weekend. Several recruiting analysts started flipping their prediction for Garcia from Miami to USC a few days ago, and tonight he’s a Trojan.

There is a long way until NSD 2021 (Early or Regular), but it seemed that Miami was in the driver seat for Garcia for several months. The Canes could stay connected to his recruitment, because things can change, but it’s also time to start cultivating other options at the most important position on the roster for the 2021 recruiting class. And yes, it’s time to do that NOW because QB recruiting is on a different schedule than every other position, and you can’t (usually) pop in on a blue-chip QB late and get them to sign with your team.

Garcia and family are scheduled to come to Miami for an unofficial visit for the Virginia Tech game on October 5th. We’ll see if that trip happens now that he’s committed to USC.

In any event, all the best to Jake Garcia.

As for the Canes, it’s back to the drawing board in the search for a 2021 QB.

More on recruiting in the coming days.
