With Manny Diaz and his staff shifting their recruiting focus to the 2021 class, the Hurricanes were able to land a commit on Sunday, during their annual Junior Day. Outside linebacker Ja’Corey Hammett from Miami Northwestern High School is the latest to commit to the Canes 2021 class.

Hammett becomes the 8th player committed to the Hurricanes in the 2021 cycle, and 3rd player from Miami Northwestern. He’s also the third outside linebacker in the 2021 class for UM, joining Tyler Johnson (Homestead) and Chamon Metayer (Miami Central). Hammett tallied 63 tackles and 11 sacks during his junior season in 2019, helping his school win the 5A state championship.
Although 247 Sports and Rivals has not ranked Hammett, the Miami native also had an offer from Tennessee, as well as Coastal Carolina.
