As the Miami Hurricanes continue to search for their next offensive coordinator, it was reported on Friday by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, that UM and Manny Diaz has expressed interest in Robert Anae, who’s currently serving as OC for the Virginia Cavaliers.
The name came as a surprise to Canes fans, as Anae’s name hadn't been brought up truly at all, when discussing candidates for the Miami OC job. Under Anae, the Cavaliers ranked 88th in total offense (388 YPG) and 40th in scoring (32.1 PPG). They were also 119th in rushing and 116th in sacks allowed.
Anae has been Virginia’s coordinator since 2016, as he came to UVA with head coach Bronco Mendenhall. Anae had been Mendenhall’s OC at BYU on two separate occasions, first from 2005 to 2010, and then from 2013 to 2015. Anae also spent two years with the Arizona Wildcats, and from 2000 to 2004 he was the offensive line coach for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and coach Mike Leach.
Jackson said in the article that Anae has not decided whether or not he’ll interview for the Miami job. More details to follow.
