It looks as if the search for the Miami Hurricanes next offensive coordinator has ended, multiple reports came out Friday that SMU’s Rhett Lashlee will become the next OC/QB coach for UM. The news was first broken by the Miami Herald.
A source close to UM said that barring any unforeseen circumstances, Miami will name SMU OC/QB coach Rhett Lashlee to the same position next week.

Soon after, Brett McMurphy and other college football reporters started to spread the news.
SMU OC Rhett Lashlee is new OC at Miami, sources told @Stadium. Lashlee has been an OC last 9 seasons at Samford (2011), Arkansas State (2012), Auburn (2013-16), UConn (2017) & SMU (2018-19)

Lashlee is expected to be officially hired next week, which means that the spread offense will finally come to Miami. For Manny Diaz and his staff, this is an absolutely amazing hire, one that can change the next several years of the UM program.
Lashlee has spent the last two seasons at SMU, helping reenergize that program. In 2019, the SMU offense was 5th in the nation in scoring (41.8 PPG), 8th in total offense (489.8 YPG), 13th in passing offense (309 YPG), as the Mustangs notched its first 10-win season since 1987. His quarterback, Shane Buechele, threw for 3,929 yards, 34 touchdowns, completed 62.7% of his passes, and averaged 8.0 yards per attempt.
Prior to SMU, Lashlee spent time as OC at UConn, Auburn, Arkansas State and Samford.
More details to come, but an amazing hire by the Hurricanes.
