When the University of Virginia faces off vs. Miami in prime time at the rock this Saturday, it will do so with a tri-headed cerberus attack. It is a three headed entity alright. #98 Freshman Iraken Armstead, #36 Redshirt-Junior Lindell Stone and someone who graduated wearing #99 Keytaon Thompson will split reps under center.
The reality is, the Miami Hurricanes are facing off vs primary running quarterbacks in Armstead and Thompson and a sedimentary throwing quarterback in Stone. This is similar to how Florida State “attacked” Miami with James Blackman and the more mobile option Jordan Travis.
Still doing an arms race this week. Although I don't think it is much of a contest. They have a quarterback with either the number 36, 98 & 99 but none equal the #canes #1 @OrangeBowlBoys @TheStateOfTheU pic.twitter.com/WAwixFm6Hv

Miami will need to set the game plan to match the skill set. A ton of jet sweep, zone read, quarterback runs will be the diet for Armstead and Thompson while Stone will be called upon to be the primary passer. The freshman Armstead is listed as a quarterback and has more throwing capability over Thompson who is also listed as a wide receiver.
King’s performance vs. Pitt was far from flawless. He seemed a bit rattled early but then looked to calm down late and engineer just enough to keep the panthers out of reach. Miami still hasn’t found connections on the outside avenues with its wide receivers thus opening up the competition in that group this week.
UM has totally opened up competition at WR. Starters not named at any WR position: either Wiggins or Redding or Smith; Pope or Payton or Worsham; Harley or Few or Restrepo.

How much of that is on the quarterback? I thought the touch downfield was better this week but when you consider two pass interference calls, a non call on an obvious pass interference and a dropped ball by Wiggins? That seemed to distort that reality.
So this will be a lop sided affair this week in the Arms Race but this is still a good opportunity to scout the upcoming opponent at the same time. UVA opened up as a 11 point dogs and for good reason. This team is lacking the fire power needed and will need to play a near perfect game if it wants to keep the Hurricanes close.
Popcorn and Pencils. We are consistently bringing The State of The U faithful insight and video consciousness like movie time. D’Eriq King will win it this week but seeing just how obvious it is might surprise you.
