Elijah Arroyo had three catches for 55 yards and a touchdown in Frisco (Tx.)-Independence’s 58-10 victory over Dallas (Tx.)-Woodrow Wilson in a Texas 5A Division I opening round playoff game on Thursday night.

The 2021 Hurricane tight end verbal commitment now has 13 receiving touchdowns in nine games this season.

Arroyo has caught at least one touchdown in four straight games. Independence, which qualified for the playoffs because it won a coin flip tiebreaker, is averaging 49.5 points per game during that stretch.

In Florida, 2021 verbal commitment Malik Curtis did not win an FHSAA playoff game this year, but he did end his high school career with a victory.

Curtis was named team MVP of the 32nd Annual Rotary South All-Star Classic on Wednesday night, which pits Lee County’s top seniors against each other. Curtis caught touchdown passes of 41 yards and five yards in his team’s 27-0 victory.

Six Hurricane verbal commitments will play in a state semifinal game this weekend. Four other Hurricane verbal commitments have already clinched a spot in their respective classification’s state title games as Hialeah-Champagnat Catholic and Hollywood-Chaminade-Madonna are off this week prior to their state championship matchups next week.

Several commitments will also continue their postseason journeys in South Florida’s tri-county playoffs tonight.
