In a ceremony held at his HS on the first day of the Early Signing Period, Houma (LA) Terrebonne 5-star DT Maason Smith committed to the hometown LSU Tigers.

A hulking, 6’5” 316lb monster, Smith could have picked any school in the country for his commitment. An Adidas All-American, Smith is the type of DT that every team can use. With 12 sacks, 11 PBUs, and 36 TFLs over his sophomore and junior years of HS, Smith’s impact on the game is easy to see.
I could give you the HUDL link. But like, just behold the destruction:

Throughout the 2021 recruiting cycle, Smith spoke highly of Miami, their coaches, and the player-friendly defensive scheme, one in which he could envision himself making plays for his college years. But, the draw of the playing in the SEC, and staying home in Louisiana at LSU were too much for Miami, or any other team, to overcome.
Even without Smith in the class, Miami is in a good spot at DT with the Nation’s #1 DT Leonard Taylor and 3-star Allan Haye, a 300lber who has only been playing football for 3 years in this class.
Miami now turns their attention to QB Jake Garcia, who is scheduled to announce a commitment at 6:30pm, and CB Ja’Den McBurrows, who is scheduled to announce a commitment at 8:00pm.
We’ll have more on the Canes’ 2021 recruiting class soon.
