Student of the Game Film Review: Miami Hurricanes vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys

There was no cheesing after the Cheez It Bowl. The Miami Hurricanes fall short in December once again as they lose 37-34 to the mullet led Cowboys.

21-0. Hard to come back from that. Blake Baker’s best shot at stopping anyone through six quarters was a missed field goal. Honestly the most depressing and abysmal defensive stretch in Miami Hurricane’s history continued early on in the Cheez It Bowl vs. Oklahoma State.

Whether it was just too much cushion, not enough field awareness on down and distance or simply because you were overmatched outside, the Hurricanes defense got gashed. Everyone and their mother thought the game plan would be to stop the run game, Spencer Sanders and the Cowboys instead aired it out.

Prior to D’Eriq King’s departure from the game due to injury, here you will see a nice Z out combo and the threat of the slant keeping the bracket linebacker at bay. King with a surgical strike and the Canes church choir can I get a BANG! or Hallelujah.

When the dust settled, Miami’s offense put up a respectable 34 points and N’Kosi Perry was a big reason why. He left a couple plays on the field but ultimately he looked extremely comfortable in this Rhett Lashlee system.

Here you will see an exploit of how Miami identified Oklahoma State keying in on the play action pass game and how Cam Harris was able to find the hole. Oklahoma State might have been able to catch Harris along the goal line but not this time for the big scamper and score.

By now you know the drill. Popcorn and pencils. May this New Year find you happy and healthy. Thank you so much for all your interactions this year. Go Canes. And let’s bring in this 2021 with a #Bang!!!!
