With Miami having Eight players invited to the NFL Pro Scouting Combine in Indianapolis next week, I jumped on a media call with Mel Kiper Jr. this afternoon and asked him “Who will be the first Miami Hurricane player to be drafted, and which former Cane stands to gain the most from the NFL Combine?”
Kiper was quick to mention graduate transfer defensive end Trevon Hill.

Kiper’s response follows:
“Again, we’ve talked about over the last few years some guys that were going to be maybe in that mid-round area... No first-round caliber players... I look at it right now and I think Trevon Hill has upside, the transfer from Virginia Tech, because of the pass rush everybody wants. He has flashed that, but I thought he’d be a little more consistent with that, more productive with that this year, but I think he’s the one, because of what everybody wants and everybody needs, he may be the guy who comes off the board.”

Kiper went on to speak about Shaquille Quarterman as someone that stands to gain from the combine by stating:
“I mean, think about Shaq Quarterman and his production. But again, it’s not 1985, 95. Those types of linebackers now, you’ve got to be an all-around player. I think Quarterman is more of a mid-round guy. But I do think if you look at what the league is all about now, Trevon Hill kind of fits that.”
Kiper didn’t mention any other Hurricanes, but there is still an opportunity for the other six players holding a combine invite to improve their status. The will need to seize the day at the NFL Combine and/or Miami’s Pro Day to improve their potential of being drafted in the 2020 NFL draft.
Those players are:
Trajan Bandy - CB - Underclassmen
Michael Pinckney - OLB
Jeff Thomas - WR - Underclassmen
DeeJay Dallas - RB - Underclassmen
Romeo Finley - S
Jonathan Garvin - DE - Underclassmen
K.J. Osborn - WR
Although another outlet is reporting on this, I believe SOTU was the only outlet asking questions about your beloved @canesfootball.
What are your predictions for the draft? Who do you feel are Miami’s best prospects?
Which player(s) do you think will make an immediate impact in the league?
