The Miami Hurricanes earned an 8-2 win over the Towson Tigers on Saturday night to move to 7-3 on the year. The win also gave Miami their second series win of the season. For the second consecutive night the Hurricanes got great starting pitching, and Alex Toral and Anthony Vilar powered Miami to the win offensively.

After Chris McMahon struck out the side in the top of the first, the Hurricanes got on the board in the bottom of the frame. Jordan Lala led-off the inning with a single, and then Anthony Vilar reached on an error. Both stole and Miami had two runners in scoring position with no outs for Adrian Del Castillo. Del Castillo hit a grounder to first for what should’ve been the first out, but the first baseman mishandled it and Lala scored. A sac-fly from Ray Gil followed to score Vilar from third and then Alex Toral then roped a home-run over the right-field fence for his third long-ball of the year to give Miami a 4-0 lead after one.

Miami added to the lead in the bottom of the second. A single and a walk put two runners on for Anthony Vilar. The shortstop took advantage of the run-scoring chance, launching a ball way out of the ballpark over the right field fence to make the score 7-0 ‘Canes through two.

The Hurricanes tacked on another run in the sixth. JP Gates reached on a fielder’s choice, and two walks loaded the bases for Jordan Lala. Lala worked a walk to earn an RBI and push Miami’s lead out to eight.

Chris McMahon worked a fantastic outing. The junior threw 6.2 solid innings, striking out a career-high 12 batters. He allowed just three hits during his outing, all on weak contact, and only allowed one real scoring opportunity for Towson.

Towson had run-scoring chance in the eighth inning. The Tigers got a single and two walks to load the bases with two outs, forcing Albert Maury out of the game. Spencer Bodanza came out of the pen to try and work out of the inning, and did so, striking out Noah Cabrera to keep Towson scoreless.

In the ninth the Tigers finally got on the board. Three singles loaded the bases for Towson, and a groundout from Matt Arceo scored the first run of the evening for the Tigers. Javon Fields followed with a single that scored another run for Towson. After that, Yordani Carmona got the final out and finished off the Hurricanes’ win.
