The Miami Hurricanes finished the sweep of the Towson Tigers on Sunday afternoon. The ‘Canes took the third game of the series 9-3 due to good bullpen work and a strong approach at the plate. The Hurricanes now head into a mid-week matchup with FAU at 8-3 on the year.

Miami got off to a quick start in the third game of the series. In the bottom of the first Jordan Lala got on base through a hit-by-pitch and stole second to put a runner in scoring position with nobody out. Anthony Vilar then drove him in with a single to center to give Miami an early lead. Adrian Del Castillo then extended the lead by driving home Vilar from second.

The Hurricanes tacked on another run in the third. Ray Gil led-off the inning with an infield single. After he took second on a wild pitch Alex Toral drove him in with an RBI single. After three Miami led 3-0.

Towson responded in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back singles put runners at the corners for the Tigers. Towson scored their first run of the afternoon when Trent Gast-Woodard scored from third when Brandon Austin got caught in a rundown and Alex Toral missed the throw home. The Tigers scored a second run on a scary play when Colin Conroy hit a line drive that hit Slade Cecconi and ricocheted into right field. Cecconi was removed after the play. Towson then tied the game with an RBI single off of reliever JP Gates that just squeaked by Luis Tuero at second.

The Hurricanes took back the lead in the sixth. Two walks and an infield single loaded the bases with nobody out for Tony Jenkins. Jenkins worked a walk to score the first run of the inning. Luis Tuero then hit a two-run single to make the score 6-3. Anthony Vilar followed him with a two-RBI single to left to put the Hurricanes up 8-3 through six.

Miami added another run in the seventh. A walk, hit-by-pitch, and single loaded the bases for Tyler Paige, who hit a fielder’s choice that scored the Hurricanes ninth run of the afternoon.

Tyler Keysor and Daniel Federman combined to work a scoreless eighth and ninth and secure the victory for Miami. Hopefully the two innings of good work for them will help establish confidence in the back-end of the bullpen for Miami.
