There’s been a lot of talk recently about the best Canes jerseys of all-time, and there are plenty to choose from. Me personally, I’m a guy that likes basic football jerseys, like Alabama or Penn State. I don’t need all these different alternate uniforms like Oregon has going on, not my style.
However, there is one alternate jersey for the Hurricanes that I absolutely love, and that’s their blackout “Miami Nights” uniforms.
I just better see the blackout jerseys return in 2020 pic.twitter.com/N7UZCKv1rL

Making their debut in 2017, Miami’s blackout jerseys were an instant hit. First game these uniforms were worn was a prime-time matchup between the undefeated Canes, and the Hokies of Virginia Tech. UM fans were decked out in all black, and it just made for an intimidating look, as Miami cruised to a 28-10 win.
The intimidation factor is one of the biggest reasons I’m a fan of the blackout uniforms, makes me think of the Oakland Raiders in the 70’s and 80’s. I think of players like Jack Tatum, Dave Casper, Ken Stabler and others, they just looked bigger and badder than everyone else, and that’s how I feel when Miami comes out in their black jerseys.
The Canes have worn the blackout jerseys four times, and their record is 2-2 in those games. Classic memory was against North Carolina in 2018, when Miami’s defense scored three times, and the black uniforms made it look that much cooler.
There’s just something so crisp and clean about Miami’s black jerseys, it just looks good. Nothing too fancy, nothing flashy about it. I can see it now, Travis Homer running for a long touchdown against Va Tech in that uniform, or Joe Jackson tacking an interception back to the house.
