Well. THAT was unexpected.
On Tuesday evening (while I was out grabbing tacos, no less), Ft. Lauderdale (FL) American Heritage 5-star S James Williams committed to the University of Miami.

This is an absolutely seismic commitment for Miami. The importance of this pledge cannot be overstated. Yes, Williams needs to sign with the Canes in the end, but getting him in the boat is a big, BIG deal.
At 6’5” 220lbs, Williams is a giantic player in the secondary. Early on in his HS career, some wondered if he would outgrow the Safety position (and I’m sure some people still have this thought), but Wiliams has not only insisted that he’s a Safety and not an OLB (or DE), he’s stayed at his preferred position and excelled.
Currently ranked as the #9 player overall, the #1 Safety, and #1 in the State of Florida according to the 247sports composite rankings, Williams is elite as elite gets. With the ablility to pick any school in the country, Williams has committed to Miami over the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Clemson Tigers, and any other team whose name you want to put in this space.
It bears stating that Williams was previously committed to Miami as an underclassman, so there will be chatter about him decommitting again in the future. Let them talk. S coach Ephraim Banda has done the work to get Williams back in the boat, and we’re going to move forward from here.
Look at Williams’s ranking again. 9 overall. 1 at Safety. 1 in the STATE OF FLORIDA. Can’t get much better than that. Williams is the 19th player to commit to Miami in the 2021 recruiting class, and by far the highest rated prospect in the group.
Now that the narrative is done, look at the player Miami is adding to an already STACKED Safety room by checking out Williams’s HUDL highlights below. NOTE: Thes highlights are from Williams’s junior season at Davie (FL) Western HS. He has since transferred back to American Heritage.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
