I’ve been talking so much about recruiting targets for Miami in the 2021 class, I decided to switch it up, and take a quick look at a 2022 prospect, and it’s a good one. Right in the Canes backyard in South Florida, is 5-star edge rusher Shemar Stewart from Monsignor Pace High School in Dade County.
Stewart is a can’t miss prospect, and 247 Sports has Stewart ranked as both the #1 egde rusher and overall player in Florida, as well as #2 player nationally, regardless of position. The website has Stewart listed at 6-5 and 236 pounds. Stewart holds offers from Miami, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, and many other powerhouse programs.

Being an elite talent, and also in South Florida, Stewart has to be high on the radar for the Canes. Miami recently landed a verbal commitment from 2021 5-star safety James Williams. Like Stewart, Williams is also ranked as the #1 player at his position in the country, as well as #1 in the state of Florida.
There is one 5-star among the defensive ends in the initial 2022 rankings, but three others are sitting on the doorstep. @cassidy_Rob makes the case for Florida prospect Shemar Stewart

As a sophomore in 2019, Stewart recorded 48 tackles and 15 sacks. Stewart was named first-team sophomore All-American by MaxPreps. With incredible upside, experts view Stewart as a future first-round draft choice in the NFL.

As of right now, LSU currently holds the crystal ball advantage on 247 Sports for Stewart, but given Miami’s latest success in recruiting South Florida players, UM very well could pose as a threat for the pass-rusher. Another advantage for Miami, is that DE Gregory Rousseau, will most likely be a top-10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and the tremendous ability by DL coach Todd Stroud to develop defensive ends.
